Throughout the development sector, many organizations are working with the goal of bringing both men and women to a level that ensures social equity and, ultimately, equality. However , there is a lack of trained persons with the requisite technical skill and the sensitivity to develop programs for achieving such a goal. There is a crucial need, especially in the development field, to sensitize men and women about gender issues as these are often sidelined in favor of immediate and tangible results. Pehchaan - which in Urdu means "identity" -- was established in 1999 with a mission to reduce gender disparities and bring about social transformation by creating gender awareness and providing gender sensitization to various individuals, communities, and organizations. Gender trainings have enormous transformatory potential and a lot of hopes (rightfully so) were being pinned on them to facilitate our struggle towards a more just society.
