Initially planned as a Rabta initiative, the community-police collaboration component is now owned, planned, and conducted by mentoring participants with facilitation by Rabta team. These included orientations, open house sessions, and interactive sessions with the community groups themselves.
Orientation Session Orientation sessions are organized by mentoring participants. In this activity they select a school and give an orientation to the students about the work and responsibilities of the police in society. The purpose of this activity is to minimize the gap between community and police in our society. This activity is organized within the premises of schools, colleges, and academies. Open Houses Open houses sessions are also conducted by the mentoring participants. In this activity police officers take students and/or other community members to a police station where they provide information to the participants about the workits working and setup of police station throughby visiting the different sections in the police station. Interactive Sessions Many misunderstandings, misconceptions, prejudices, and myths stem from the lack of communication and interaction between the police and the community. Therefore, the purpose of the interactive sessions is to facilitate an environment of mutual trust and to encourage community members to interact with the police in a free and safe environment. In a more interactive exercise, the police and community sit together, listen to each other's viewpoints (both negative and positive), and try to clarify their pre-conceived notions, concepts, and myths regarding each other. The interactive sessions are carefully structured and facilitated by the Rabta team.
Panel Discussion Panel discussions on different issues are organized with an aim to discuss issues that matter equally to police and community. Panelists share their experiences and learning, after which there is a question and answer session. Feedback Session In order to review the mentoring process and discuss the process' flaws and achievements, a one-day feedback session is organized with the mentoring participants by the Rabta team.
