White Ribbon Campaign Print

This campaign is the largest effort in the world of men challenging men to end violence against women. Men are encouraged to wear white ribbons from November 25 to December 10 every year. Wearing this white ribbon symbolizes their contribution to raising awareness on this tragic aspect of our society as well as pledging never to commit, condone, or remain silent about violence against women.

There has been a continuous involvement of men in Rozan's awareness raising activities regarding violence against women. In the year 2002 a total of fifteen men were trained after which they conducted awareness raising activities such as orientations on VAW in their communities. These men were also involved in the White Ribbon Campaigns (WRC) held by Rozan in 2002 and 2003 which involved various activities such as awareness raising and the distribution of flyers in public places such as petrol pumps and parks. The volunteers were also presented with certificates to acknowledge and appreciate their efforts.

A forum was formed and named "Men for Peace" with the objective to build the capacity of the male volunteers to conduct the various awareness-raising activities as well as to enable a shift in ownership of the issue to these individuals. It is hoped that the activities are not limited to the Campaign Days, but are sustained throughout the year.

The WRC aims to promote the understanding that not all men are violent. However, too may men who are violent have created a climate of fear and mistrust among women. All men are labeled because of some men who have created this culture of violence. The WRC aims to encourage non-violent men to come forward and play a positive role in ending violence against women.

Here is How You Can Contribute

  • Challenge jokes and language that degrade women.
  • Challenge men who abuse their partners.
  • Examine how your own behavior might contribute to the problem.
  • Educate yourselves and other men about violence against women
  • Support women's organizations and shelters
  • Be sensitive towards survivors of violence.

The White Ribbon Campaign believes that men can and must be part of the solution, and you can be a part of it.
